BA Contemporary Art

mrblack artist profile

We love to to be creative with our imagery, using digital, analogue & drone to find a different aspect to the norm. We work with a variety of other creatives to provide a complete visual creative experience to our clients.

We provide photography and videography services as well as web design and art curation and management services.

Black Creative head chef dean has been playing in the creative space, especially photography, since the beginning of time, from film to video and analogue to digital. As a creative in many mediums he aims to give all his creative projects a touch of artistic licence.

In 2024 he got a BA in Contemporary Art with the idea to bring the artistic and photography together. As a teacher of photography, he has a simple practical approach that puts the learner at ease and encourages experimentation and engagement.

Dean also works as a a contractor and consultant in the operational and change management space during his spare time.

"what a load of waffle, i have the perfect face for photography, ie. the backside of the camera, i take photos, make videos, create art, teach taking photos and drink lots of coffee, what's more to be said" ~ dean (black creative head chef & artist)

Te Toi Whakaahua

Gallery Opening

Māori art has a new home

Following the opening of the Wairau Gallery in Whangarei earlier this year, Cambridge now has its own dedicated space for Māori toi (art). Te Toi Whakaahua gallery celebrated its formal opening on February 25, where approximately 40 patrons were greeted with a powhiri from exhibited artist Michael Matchitt, live music, and a speech by founder and director Dean McLeod.

Dean, a Wintec visual arts graduate, created the space to support up and coming artists, with mentorship and artistic support being a large part of the kaupapa.

“Te Toi Whakaahua is the end of a dream and the start of a reality.” says Dean, “I’ve always dreamt of starting a gallery where I can support artists and give them a voice”
